Allie/Al Monstruo

Took it at the bicycle collective, i hesitated between this one and an other one more prestine but smaller. It was initially a precious little rusty blue bike with narrow tyre width. The project was to cut it to make it foldable.
The bike itself wasn't with it's original parts i assume.
Named Almo, Allie randomly.

Projects

Frame, Fork folding mechanism, 2 hinges and closing system

This bike is a future folding bike so i have to keep stuff real simple. I'm gonna cut it in two then solder 2 hinges
It will not a heavy duty bike but my traveler in trains, bus, others. I put the Shimano MTB 2x Crankset originally intended for Lil B. I need mostly to improve comfort with high set handlebars, larger or sturdier tyres, make the brake levers more close to my handlebars because i have small hands and at the moment i can't fast reach my levers

Updates

The whole build still need to put a rear brake. I put a 5 speed freewheel in the back. instead of the crusty 7 speed i found at the bike collective. Everything works as intended. The bike itself is snappy, lighter than any bike i had before

I've made a pretty destructive job on my last session at the workshop for this one. i wanted to make it right regards to the steering stem. Like clean it and maybe examinate the rusty points on it. The stem was frozen inside the fork so i searched some solutions outside. Unlike the chemical option which i wanted to avoid i did cut the stem. Once i removed the fork with a half stem in it i search some fork and i only found out a sturdy mountain bike fork with ugly stickers from a "Girly" MTB but once the stickers removed that was nice. The fork has V-brakes mounting points and dynamo mount. The whole build got a little heavier but it's still simple enough so it's nice.

I changed the pedals, put my ol' Lyotard's. Still need some toe cages. i changed the stem too and both brakes, now i have Mafac Racer's (front+rear). Now i need to figure it out a closing mechanism for the hinges

Changed the tyres, find a correct rear brake setup

Drilled and installed hinges

Cut and Folding system installed
finally finished the biggest step of this project, the folding system hold nicely. the whole bike is more flexible but it's ok, it's not off or too flexible. it can handle speed, downhill, and rough patch without rattling sounds.

09/2023
Extra steps: i put some epoxy putty to make it nice before painting it, changed handlebars, now living in the steps of Cheval Jaune's parts.

10/2023
Changed the crankset for something more appropriate and modulable. Currently 42t

07/2024
Stripped paint, new paint job, installed a cute little front rack
